Largest Banyan tree in India: The Great Banyan Tree of the Indian Botanic Garden in Howrah near Kolkata looks like a small forest and is over 250 years old and has 2800 prop roots sprawling over an area of 1.5 hectares. This tree was struck by lightning so some portions had to be trimmed or else till 1925 this was the widest tree in the world.
