- India on Friday successfully launched its second navigational satellite IRNSS 1B onboard PSLV-C24 from this spaceport.
- Indian Space Research Organisation's workhorse Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle PSLV-C24 placed the IRNSS IB in precise orbit about 19 minutes after a perfect lift-off at 5.14 pm from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota.

- Afghans braved the threat of Taliban violence on Saturday to elect a successor to President Hamid Karzai in the country's first democratic transfer of power as US-led forces wind down their 13-year war.
- Delhi girl Koyal Rana is new Femina Miss India 2014. She was crowned with the Miss India World title and was selected amongst 24 other gorgeous finalist. The runners up were Jhataleka Malhotra (1st runner-up) from Mumbai and Gail Da'Silva (2nd runner-up) from Goa.
