- President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee inaugurated the International Conference on Natural Fibres organized by the National Institute of Research on Jute and Allied Fibre Technology today (August 1, 2014) at Kolkata.
- As per the latest reports of sowing of kharif crops, kharif sowing area stands at 706.25 lakh hectare.
- Annual food subsidy implication of implementation of National Food Security Act, 2013 (NFSA) at 2014-15 costs, is estimated to be around Rs. 1,31,086 crore, against which, Rs. 1,10,500 crore has been provided in the current year budget.
- State Bank of India (SBI) has launched six Digital Branches in the country on 1st July, 2014, one each at Ahmedabad, Chennai, Delhi and Mumbai and two branches at Bengaluru.
- Flood situation in Kosi river in Bihar. Bihar Government has been put on alert. They have started taking action for evacuation of persons living in villages lying within the embankment area in 22 panchayats of Supaul district and other 7 districts of Bihar. Relief camps including cattle relief camps are being organised for the evacuated families.

-  President presents outstanding MP awards to Arun Jaitley, Dr. Karan Singh and Shri Sharad Yadav . The President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee presented Outstanding Parliamentarian Awards to Shri Arun Jaitley, Dr. Karan Singh and Shri Sharad Yadav for the years 2010, 2011 and 2012 respectively at a function organized by the Indian Parliamentary Group.
- A Hindu temple, claimed to be the world's first 'eco-temple' featuring solar panels and a rainwater harvesting system, has been opened in northwest London in the UK.
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi today announced a new initiative under which each MP would develop a model village in his area. The "Sansad Aadarsh Gram Yojna" will be launched on the 11th October 2014, birth anniversary of political activist Jayaprakash Narayan.
- Five Indian companies, including Hindustan Unilever and Tata Consultancy Services, are among Forbes' list of the world's 100 most innovative companies that investors think are most likely to "generate big, new growth ideas". - The annual 'World's Most Innovative Companies' list, released on Wednesday, has been topped by California-based global cloud computing company Salesforce for the fourth year in a row. The five Indian companies on the list are consumer goods company Hindustan Unilever, which is ranked 14th, followed by IT major Tata Consultancy Services (57), construction services firm Larsen & Toubro (58), pharma major Sun Pharma Industries (65) and Bajaj Auto (96)
- Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, today dedicated the 1000MW ( 2X500 MW) stage I of Mouda Super Thermal Power Project to the nation in Mouda in Nagpur district of Maharashtra
- National Sports Awards 2014 are announced.National Sports Awards are given every year to recognize and reward excellence in sports.
- President Pranab Mukherjee awarded 28 persons, including three journalists and an ISRO scientist, for their outstanding contribution towards the development and spread of Hindi language.
- Recep Tayyip Erdogan to be sworn in as Turkey's new president .
- Indian Air Force and Russian Federation Air Force (RFAF), Ex Avia Indra-2014 commenced today at Astrakhan region, near the Caspian Sea in Russia. The Exercise which has begun today will go on till 05 September 2014. Ex Avia Indra-2014 which has commenced today is the first exercise of its kind between the two Air Forces and is seen as a major mile stone in military relations.
- Government on 27th August launched the .bharat domain name in devanagari script covering eight languages including Hindi, Konkani and Marathi.
-  Shri Ram Vilas Paswan, Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution has announced the annual awards and commendation certificates for the nineteenth prestigious Rajiv Gandhi National Quality Awards for the year 2012. The Best of All Award has been won by Rail Wheel factory (Ministry of Railways), Bangalore.
- Minister for Information and Broadcasting Prakash Javadekar on 28th August opened the first edition of northeast film festival in the capital and said the government is committed to mainstream new initiatives in the region.
- Prime Minister Shri. Narendra Modi today launches 'Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana'. The 'Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana', an ambitious financial inclusion scheme under which the government intends to provide every household with a bank account and insurance cover, was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday.
- Archaeologists have unearthed two ancient Maya cities hidden in thick vegetation in the Mexican jungle. The cities were discovered in the southeastern part of the Mexican state of Campeche, in the heart of the Yucatan peninsula.
