- Retail inflation moved up to 5.11 percent in January month-on-month, measured on a new base year 2012, mainly due to dearer food items including fruits and vegetables.
- British crooner Sam Smith bagged four gongs including song of the year and record of the year for his mega hit 'Stay With Me' while Indian artists Ricky Kej and Neela Vaswani won two trophies at the 57th Grammy Awards in Los Angeles.
- At the BAFTA (British Academy of Film and Television Arts) 2015 held in London on Sunday night, coming-of-age drama 'Boyhood' took home three of the biggest awards, however, it was Wes Anderson's whimsical drama ‘The Grand Budapest Hotel’ proved the star of the night, clinching five trophies.

- World Health Organization says at least 8,153 people have died in the Ebola outbreak in West Africa. The Geneva-based body said on Monday that the total number of confirmed, probable and suspected deaths from the disease comes from 20,656 cases in the three most affected countries a mortality rate of 39 percent.
- Arvind Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party beats BJP in Delhi assembly election. With such a wide margin of victory, AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal, an anticorruption activist turned politician will become Delhi’s chief minister.
- Industrial production growth rate slowed to 1.7 percent in December last year on sequential basis mainly due to a contraction in the mining and quarrying sector. The growth in factory output, as measured by the Index of Industrial Production (IIP), in the month under review was, however, higher as compared to December, 2013 when it expanded by 0.1 percent.
- Extravagant opening ceremony ahead of 2015 Cricket World Cup at Christchurch and Melbourne, 14 nations to compete for the coveted trophy across 6 weeks and 49 matches.
