Vijai Sharma was on 8 June 2015 appointed as the Chief Information Commissioner in the Central Information Commission (CIC), New Delhi. He will have tenure of 5 years or till he attain the age of 65, whichever is earlier. Prior to this appointment, he was serving as an Information Commissioner in Central Information Commission since 2012. Vijai Sharma is a 1974 batch IAS officer of Uttar Pradesh Cadre. He has rich work experience in Administration & Governance and Law & Policy in Central and State Governments and in the United Nations. Vijai Sharma’s name for post of Chief Information Commissioner was finalized on 1 June 2015 by Selection Committee headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. His appointment was further approved by President Pranab Mukherjee.
At a ceremony held at 1230 hrs at Rashtrapati Bhavan, Shri K.V. Chowdary was sworn in as the Central Vigilance Commissioner and Shri Vijai Sharma was sworn in as Chief Information Commissioner. They made and subscribed the oath of their respective offices before the President.
