Government has appointed Ashwani Lohani as Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of state owned national carrier Air India Ltd. His name was cleared by the Appointments Committee of Cabinet (ACC) chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He will have tenure of three years and succeed senior IAS officer Rohit Nandan whose extended tenure is ending on 21 August 2015.
Ashwani Lohani Lohani is a 1980 batch officer of Indian Railway Service of Mechanical Engineers (IRSME). Presently, he is working as Managing Director (MD) of Madhya Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (MPTDC) in Bhopal. He is qualified mechanical engineer and is a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT). He is the founder member of the Indian Steam Railway Society (ISRS) and member of CII National Council on Tourism. He is also life member of Museums Associations of India and Institute of Rolling Stock Engineers. He has authored two books namely Winning at work against all odds’ and a coffee table book Smoking Beauties (2004). He also has authored a report on Rail Heritage and Tourism published in 2006.
