Justice Vishnu Sahay submit report on Muzaffarnagar riots 2013

Retired Justice Vishnu Sahay on Wednesday submitted the 2013 Muzaffarnagar communal riots investigation report to Governor Ram Naik. The one-man commission had been set up under the 'Commission of Enquiry Act 1952' on September 9, 2013, in the aftermath of the deadly riots in Muzaffarnagar in western Uttar Pradesh that had singed other districts as well. While initially the tenure of the commission was six months, it was given extensions twice, something which the opposition parties had vehemently opposed and vocally questioned.
The Justice (retd) Vishnu Sahai commission inquiring the Muzaffarnagar riots of 2013, in which more than 60 people were killed and around 50,000 rendered homeless, has indicted local members of the ruling Samajwadi Party in Uttar Pradesh and the BJP for their role in the carnage, and also blamed senior police and administrative officials posted in the district for lapses that led to the deadly spiral of violence. The commission recorded the statements of more than 476 persons, including 100 officials in connection with the riots that broke out after an incident on August 27, 2013.
