Supreme Court on Monday asked the Centre and state government to bring acid attack survivors within the ambit of disable person to get the benefits of reservation in government jobs. The apex court said that acid attack survivors must be brought to national mainstream and bringing them within the ambit of disable persons would help in their rehabilitation.The court directed the Bihar government to pay a compensation of Rs 10 lakh to a acid attack victim. The apex court said that it is the duty of government to provide free treatment to them.
The Supreme Court had earlier passed a slew of measures for treatment and rehabilitation of acid attack victims. It had directed all government and private hospitals to provide free treatment to them. It had also fixed minimum compensation of Rs 2 lakh to them which is to be paid by the state government.
