Miss Spanish Mireia Lalaguna Royo was named Miss World 2015 on Saturday in Sanya, an island resort off the southern coast of China. The top 5 finalists were Miss Russia Sofia Nikitchuk, Miss Lebanon
Valerie Abou Chacra, Miss Spain Mireia Lalaguna Royo, Miss Indonesia
Maria Harfanti, and Miss Jamaica Sanneta Myrie. In third place, was Miss Indonesia and second place went to Miss

Rolene Strauss of South Africa. The 23-year-old hails from Barcelona and is studying pharmacology in hopes of pursuing a master's degree in nutrition. She is the first Spanish contestant to take the Miss World crown. Miss World is the oldest surviving beauty pageant. It was intended to be a one-off event as part of the Festival of Britain celebrations in 1951. Shortly after being crowned, Royo took to Instagram to show her appreciation for the win. "The start of a new journey... I'm so proud to be the new Miss World 2015, I can't wait for this amazing year," she wrote on Saturday.
