Legendary artist and Padma Bhushan awardee Mrinalini Sarabhai passed away on Thursday at the age of 97. She had been admitted to hospital a day before. Trained in Bharatnatyam, Kathakali and Mohiniyattom, she was educated at Shantiniketan under Rabindranath Tagore. She was marries to the architect of India's space programme, Dr Vikram Sarabhai.
Mallika Sarabhai, daughter of Mrinalini Sarabhai, confirmed the news on her Facebook page. The post read: "My mother Mrinalini Sarabhai has just left for her eternal dance." She was was awarded with the Padma Bhushan in 1992 and the Padma Shri in 1965. She was married to physicist Vikram Sarabhai and has two children Kartikeya and Mallika.
