ISRO launches RESOURCESAT-2A

Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has successfully sent the Resourcesat-2A into the orbit this morning from Sri Harikota. The satellite will serve nation for next five years. The satellite blasted off from the satish Dhawan Space center on 7th December 2016. The three cameras of different resolution on ‘Resourcesat-2A’ will give regular micro and macro information on land and water bodies below, farm lands and crop extent, forests, mineral deposits, coastal information, rural and urban spreads besides helping in disaster management. Resourcesat-2A is the third remote sensing satellite under ‘Resourcesat’ series. Resourcesat-1 was put in space in October 2003 and Resourcesat-2 in April 2011, each with a planned life of five years. The satellite was earlier planned for launch on November 28. The spacecraft mass is around 1,200 kilogram with a power generation capacity of 1,250 Watt and a mission life of five years.
