Delhi will host the first ever Pravasi Sansad Conference on 9th January 2018 at the Pravasi Bharatiya Kendra at Chanakyapuri. Prime Minister Narendra Modi set to inaugurate the event; 124 MPs and 17 mayors from 20 countries are participating. Taking a big step to further strengthen its diaspora connect, India is all set to host its first Person of indian origin parliamentary conference. The conference, as the name suggests, will host people's representatives including mayors and law makers of Indian origin from across the globe.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the first chapter of the conference on January 9th. As many as 124 MP's and 17 Mayors from more than 20 Countries have confirmed participation. The biggest delegation will be from Guyana with 20 MP's and 3 Mayors. The event will have two sessions that will deliberate on related topics ie, 'PIO parliamentarians -- journey of struggle to parliament' and 'Resurgent India-- role of PIO parliamentarians'.
Pravasi Bharatiya Divas is celebrated on 9 January every year to mark the contribution of Overseas Indian community in the development of India. It was on January 9 in 1915 that Mahatma Gandhi, the greatest Pravasi, returned to India from South Africa, A homecoming that changed the lives of Indians forever.
