Justice Tahira Safdar has been sworn-in as the first woman Chief Justice of Balochistan High Court at a ceremony held at the Governor House in Balochistan. Earlier, Safdar created history in 1982 when she became the first female civil judge in Balochistan. Explanation: The Indian economy grew at a 15-quarter high of 8.2% in the April-June quarter of current fiscal (2018-19), as was disclosed in the data released by the Central Statistics Office (CSO) on 31 August 2018. The growth thus cemented India’s position as the fastest growing major economy, clocking higher expansion rate than China’s 6.7 in the same quarter. Manufacturing grew in double digits at 13.5% in the June quarter from a contraction of 1.8% in the same quarter a year ago, while construction made strong recovery to grow at 8.7% against 1.8% during same period last year. Agriculture also grew at a robust 5.3% in the June quarter against 3% during the same quarter a year ago. The previous high quarterly GDP growth was recorded in July-September period in 2014-15 at 8.4%. Economic growth had dipped to 5.6% in the April to June 2017 quarter as companies reduced stocks ahead of the rollout of the goods and services tax (GST) in July last year.
